The Tab
* Privacy Policy · Effective July 14, 2026 *
The Tab ("the app") is operated by Rafik Manla Hassan. This policy explains what
the app collects, why, and what happens to it. The short version: your data exists
to make bill-splitting work between you and your friends — it is never sold, never
used for advertising, and you can delete all of it yourself at any time.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address, username, and
optional profile photo. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive
your name and email from them.
- Payment note (optional) — free text you choose to share with
friends about how to pay you (for example an e-Transfer email). Visible only to
your friends and group members.
- Expense data — the amounts, notes, categories, dates,
participants, and groups you record. Shared, by design, with the people in each
entry or group.
- Receipt photos — when you scan a receipt, the photo is sent
securely to Anthropic's Claude API to read the merchant, items, and totals.
A compressed copy of the photo is stored with the expense so everyone in the
split can view the original; it is deleted along with the expense or your
account. Anthropic does not train models on this API data.
- Push token — a device identifier used only to deliver
notifications (new expenses, settle-up requests, reminders). Stored privately;
other users can never read it.
Where it lives
Data is stored with Supabase (hosted on Amazon Web Services) and encrypted in
transit. Access is enforced row-by-row: only you, your friends, and your fellow
group members can see the data the app shares between you.
What we don't do
- No selling or renting of your data — to anyone, ever.
- No advertising and no ad tracking.
- No third-party analytics profiling.
Deleting your data
In the app: Friends tab → Profile → Delete account. This
permanently deletes your account, friendships, groups, and every entry you created,
including on friends' tallies. There is no grace period and no backup copy kept.
Children
The Tab is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect
their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will change and the
app will point to the updated version.
